    • Māori Immersion Teacher Allowance (MITA)
    • Professional Learning (Leadership Course at Harvard University … Australia or USA)

Application Process:

Further Information:
The Kaiako Matua position is one of two positions across Nelson College and Nelson College for Girls.  Our two schools have a close relationship and enjoy a philosophy of two waka, one journey.  We are separate schools who serve the one community.

You will lead and teach at Nelson College, collaborating closely with your counterpart at Nelson College for Girls to build a shared Ara Māori programme for rangatahi across both kura.

The position is initially a fixed term (full-time) contract for 2 1/2 years, with the expectation that it will progress to a permanent position after the initial pilot.

In the first term, you’ll liaise with whānau and iwi to develop a medium-term strategy and develop resources that reflect local tikanga and reo Māori.  In the second term, you’ll teach English, Maths and Te Reo Māori (and/or other subjects if you can) to year 9 ākonga.  The following year, your teaching programme will grow to include year 10 students.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to establish a new vision and opportunity for Māori rangatahi/ākonga in Te Tauihu.  We look forward to your application, and welcome any contact if you have any questions or want more information.

Ngā mihi nui,

R Dykes
