Enrol in Boarding
Boarding welcomes students from Year 7 – 13. We have the staffing, processes and facilities to help safely support students from all age groups to flourish.
Enrolling in boarding at Nelson College is a simple process. Complete our online form or download the paper version to send to us by post or email. If you’re unsure, email our staff at boarding@nelson.school.nz or phone us on 03 548 3099, and we’ll be in touch.
Enrolment Process
- Enrolment Form submitted along with:
- Proof of domestic status (ie. Copy of NZ birth certificate or NZ passport)
- 2 most recent school reports
- Contact details for your son’s current Principal or Year Level Dean
- Learning conditions’ documentation (if applicable)
When an enrolment application is received you will be sent an email of acknowledgement. Don’t include an application fee at this stage.
- Family interview
If application into boarding is accepted, a provisional offer can be confirmed once we have received the following forms.
- Medical Form submitted
- Copy of vaccination records (generated from your GP)
Fees and Scholarships
Our boarding fees are reviewed annually.
Deposit to Secure a Boarding Place
A deposit of $1,000 (NZ) is to be paid when accepting a boarding place at Nelson College. This deposit is credited to the student’s invoice for boarding fees. In those cases where the acceptance is subsequently declined by the parent, the deposit may be forfeited except at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.
Full Boarding
2025 Boarding Fees for all boarders are $16,850.00
Boarding fees and accommodation covers the weeks that the school is in operation. These fees are charged over 9 months, from February to October @ $1,800 per month. This account will also include charges relating to boarding, eg house canteen, house photos, house organised activities & bus transport home as arranged by the Housemaster. All other general school and living expenses are to be paid at the time and cannot be charged to House Account.
These fees and expenses are due to be paid by 20th of the following month by either:
- Automatic Payment
- Internet Banking
- Credit Card – this will incur a bank fee of 1.7%
Payment for the full year is acceptable, a discount is applicable if this option is chosen, as per details to be sent out to you with your first invoice pack. Parents are to take responsibility for any private expenses and pocket money by setting up a bank account for their son which they can access with their EFTPOS card.

Casual Boarding
Up to 3 nights per week casual boarding can be negotiated with the Director of Boarding.
School Expenses
Domestic boarding students are treated the same as day school students. All costs and expenses (e.g. trip fees, co-curricular fees) must be paid by parents and aren’t included in the boarding fees.
