Hockey has become a cornerstone of Nelson College’s sporting tradition and continues to grow in popularity. We have had many representative players across the age groups, with some going on to achieve higher New Zealand honours.
We currently have five registered teams in the local Nelson Hockey competition. The 1st XI plays as a Nelson College team in the Premier 2 men’s competition, with our top players dual-registered to a Premier 1 club team. We also have two teams that compete in Division 4 on Friday nights and two teams in Division 5 on Wednesday nights.
Our 1st XI will compete in the Tasman Secondary Schools Tournament, sports exchanges with Marlborough Boys’ College and Shirley Boys’ High School, and in the Rankin Cup (Division 1) of the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Tournament. We also aim to organise inter-school games for our junior players.
Coach
We are fortunate to have Mr Jamie Brown as our Head Coach. Alongside him, the highly experienced Jonti Austin, a Nelson College Old Boy who previously captained our 1st XI.
