English & Media Studies

English

English at Nelson College is a gateway to understanding, expression, and creativity. In today’s fast-paced world, strong communication skills are essential for success in every field. Through reading, writing, and presenting, students learn to analyse, express ideas, and engage critically with the world around them.

In Year 9, the programme explores themes like belonging,  friendship, empathy, and heroes. Each term challenges students to think deeply and creatively through literature, film, and personal writing. Alongside core skills, boys are encouraged to explore the library and develop a lifelong love of reading.

With a foundation in literacy and critical thinking, students gain tools to navigate and influence the modern era. English at Nelson College is more than a subject; it’s a journey into understanding ourselves and the world.
