US Scholarship For Old Boy Oliver Morton
Last year’s Head Boy and Dux, Oliver Morton has been awarded the highly prestigious Robertson Scholarship to study in the United States.
He is one of just 25–30 students globally selected for this life-changing opportunity, and the only successful candidate from New Zealand this year.
The Robertson Scholarship is a fully funded four-year programme offering students the rare privilege of studying at both Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill—two of the most respected tertiary institutions in the US. Scholars are ‘dual citizens’ of both universities, with access to courses, resources and communities at each.
Oliver was selected following an extensive international process involving thousands of applicants. After multiple interview rounds—including online group interviews and a final panel interview with Robertson’s Director of Recruitment and Selection, Kay-Francis Brody, who travelled to New Zealand in March—he was stunned to receive the offer.
“I was completely blown away to be chosen,” he said. “It’s an incredible honour, and I’m just so excited for what lies ahead.”
In early April, Oliver flew to North Carolina for an orientation week, where he met his fellow scholars, toured both campuses, and experienced some famous Southern hospitality. “I made great new friends and can’t wait to get started in August,” he shared. Given Oliver’s outgoing personality and infectious good vibes, this is something that comes as no surprise to those who know him.
The scholarship covers all tuition, accommodation, meals, and university fees, along with three summer programmes and two overseas study experiences—altogether valued at over NZD $550,000. More than financial support, the Robertson Scholars Leadership Programme focuses on developing young leaders who embody purposeful leadership, intellectual curiosity, strength of character, and a collaborative spirit.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in the academic and personal growth experiences offered through the programme,” Oliver said. “It’s not just about the education—it’s about becoming the kind of leader who can make a difference.”
We’re so proud of Oliver and this well-deserved achievement. We’ll be watching where life takes him and cheering him on every step of the way!
