The Jazz band and Concert band participated in the Wellington Band and Orchestra Festival (WeBo) last week, bringing back a Silver (Jazz Band) and Gold award (Concert Band).
This is New Zealand’s fastest growing National festival that caters for diverse categories of musical genres in one big event. As part of the competition, our musicians received workshops, mentoring and free concerts from top professionals Dr. Rodger Fox, Dr. Rob McWilliams and Lance Philip. Our ensembles were amongst the smallest in terms of number of performers on stage, however the boys certainly ‘Packed-a-punch’ in terms of the depth sound output achieved.
We are currently working on growing our ranks with a Year 7 beginner development band programme currently in place to invest in grass roots musicians and build a strong future in instrumental music.
