Our 1st XI Hockey team had a great TSS tournament this week, in preparation for Nationals.
The first game against Waimea College is always a special one with the Mark Wilkens Memorial Cup on the line. This is the 4th year of the Cup and Nelson College remain the holders of it (all 4 times). We beat Waimea 5-2. Mark Wilkens was a Nelson College Old Boy, who contributed to Nelson Hockey for most of his life. He sadly passed away in the middle of a game against our school team in 2015. His son Eli attended Waimea College, which is why we have the Cup up on this game every year. We are so happy that Kathy Wilkens. Marks wife, was able to come and present the Cup to us once again.
That afternoon we played a Nayland College Combined team and won 7-0.
This just left Marlborough Boys College to play, who were also unbeaten. Earlier in the season we had played them and lost 4-1. Our boys played some awesome hockey and the game was 2-1 to us for a long period of time, until MBC won a penalty corner right on the full time whistle. They converted this and the final score was 2-2.
Nelson College secured the TSS Trophy for the Overall Winner on goal difference, by 1 goal!
Well done boys, and coaches.
