On behalf of the Board of Trustees I would like to thank:

Tim Tucker, our Acting Headmaster, who has done an exceptional job leading Nelson College through what we believe to be the most challenging time for all educational institutions in recent history. The Board thanks Tim for all his hard work and acknowledges his outstanding performance.

Senior Leadership Team, our Heads of Department, our teachers, our counsellors and our support staff for your incredible efforts over this difficult time. The Board has heard some great stories. Those of us who are parent representatives have also observed first-hand your commitment to continue educating the boys of Nelson College and look after their wellbeing during lockdown.

Dennis Christian, who stepped down from his role as Board Chair at our March meeting after eight years in the role. Please join the Board in thanking Dennis for his leadership, vision and passion to advance Nelson College, as well as his hard work and service behind-the-scenes. Dennis continues serving as a trustee.

With his youngest son in his final year at College and the recent appointment of the new Headmaster, Dennis felt it was an appropriate time to step down from the role. Dennis writes, “I have enjoyed my time as Chair, with highlights being the successive 4-5 year ERO Reports, and the redevelopment of the boarding houses. I am thankful the College attracts such wonderful and committed staff and I am now looking forward to having a less time-consuming role to play. I am pleased to advise Deleece Hall is the new Chair. Deleece brings a breadth of experience to the role and is in her second term on the Board. She will be supported by Jane Peterson as Deputy Chair”.

I can confirm that Richard Dykes is scheduled to take up his role as Headmaster of Nelson College on 2 June (the day after Queen’s Birthday Weekend). Richard and his family plan to arrive in Nelson and move into the Headmaster’s Residence the previous week (COVID-19 status level permitting). We look forward to welcoming Richard Dykes and his family to Nelson College. The timing of a formal welcome, fitting for a new Headmaster of Nelson College, will be dependent on changes to COVID-19 status.[/column]
