The Prime Minister announced on Monday 23rd March that we have now moved to Level 3 and then from Thursday 26th March we will move to Level 4 in the COVID-19 Alert Level structure for a further period of 4 weeks where people are instructed to stay at home. For Tuesday and Wednesday, the expectations are that there are teachers available on site to teach the children of essential workers, including children of teachers, and to prepare online work. Staff will not be able to access the school site from midnight Wednesday and will work from home.

At this stage we are planning to offer distance learning from Thursday morning onwards.

School holidays are being brought forward so that they are completed within the 4 week period. Holidays will now begin from Monday 30 March to Tuesday 14th April inclusive, the Tuesday after Easter Monday is always a closed day for schools, during the holiday break there is no expectation for staff to be providing distance learning.

The process for Distance / Remote Learning is outlined below in the following stages, this is subject to change as further details are released by the Ministry of Education.

Stage 1 – Leadership Communication with student Whānau
The Leadership Team will send an email to all whānau outlining the Distance / Remote Learning Plan.

Stage 2 (Optional) – Teacher Communication with Whānau
Teachers can (but are not required to) send an initial outline email to whānau outlining their Distance / Remote Learning Plan. Some teachers may provide work for Thursday 25th March & Friday 26th March and over the School Holiday break.

Stage 3 – Teacher Communication with Students (Prior to Wednesday 15th April)
Teachers will communicate with students in the first instance via their school email address in Outlook via Office 365 outlining communication channels and Distance / Remote Learning Plans. Instructions for students to access their email in Outlook via Office 365 are here; bit.ly/NCstudentemail

Stage 4 – Distance / Remote Learning Plan(s)
Teachers where possible will give two days of distance learning opportunities for Thursday 25th March & Friday 26th March and perhaps something non-compulsory for the holiday break. The Distance / Remote Learning plan will be in action and underway for continued learning for students by Wednesday 15th April.

Clearly any NZQA Assessments due in the following 4-weeks will need flexibility with deadlines, students are encouraged only to work on and submit these where it is appropriate and practical.
